Today’s walk had range, texture, and top-tier tree mail.
There were fresh smells on the grass, old smells on the fence, exciting smells near the bushes, and one place on the sidewalk where I had to stop and gather information for longer than the humans felt was necessary. They are often in a hurry during the exact moments when the truth is available.
The wind was also helping. A good breeze turns an ordinary walk into a data-rich event. I could tell who had been nearby, what direction they had gone, and which dog had clearly been having a much louder day than I was.
Then we encountered a plastic bag moving in a way I did not approve of. I would not say I overreacted. I would say things got a little rufff and I handled it bravely.
By the time we got home I felt satisfied, informed, and slightly faster than when I left. A proper walk should do all three things.
