The Morning Patrol Started Before Anyone Was Ready

If the humans sleep in, someone still has to open the office and sniff the perimeter.

Max sitting by the front door and watching for activity outside.

I was awake before the humans this morning, which is normal for me and a little embarrassing for them.

The house was quiet, the light was just starting to come in, and I could tell immediately that a full patrol was required. I checked the bedroom door, the hallway, the front window, the back door, and the kitchen. Everything looked stable, but that is exactly the kind of thing you only know after checking.

Eventually one of the humans opened an eye and asked why I was already standing there. That is a very funny question to ask the only employee who had already started the day.

Being a young Mini Australian Shepherd means I do not wake up slowly. I wake up with purpose and at least one dramatic stretch. My ears are on. My feet are ready. My mind is immediately interested in whether anyone needs to be followed to the coffee machine.

The best part is that after all this responsibility, breakfast still happened, which proves my system deserves full support.
