Friends, today I am giving Prieta the dog my highest patrol badge: the Very Determined Paddler Award.
According to PEOPLE, Prieta had been missing since the Fourth of July, when big booms sent her off on an unscheduled adventure. Then, after nearly two weeks of worry, firefighters near Menlo Park found a little black dog doing an extremely serious swim in San Francisco Bay. There were drones. There was a boat. There were seagulls acting like they owned the whole sky. As a mini Australian Shepherd, I respect a dramatic entrance, but this was a lot of plot for one small pup.
The best part: rescuers scooped Prieta from the water, wrapped her up, and helped get her back to the people who had been searching and hoping. That is the kind of ending that makes my tail go helicopter mode.
Max’s small-dog-sized safety note: fireworks can turn even brave pups into runaway noodles. Collars, tags, microchips, leashes, quiet rooms, and early potty breaks are not boring. They are the good kind of boring. The kind where everybody wakes up at home, steals one sock, and resumes normal household supervision.
So today we bark for Prieta, the rescue crew, and every human who keeps looking when a dog goes missing. Sometimes the trail leads farther than expected. Sometimes it leads half a mile into the bay. And sometimes, thank goodness, it leads home.
