Some people underestimate the value of a good nap. Those people are clearly overtired.
Today I took one nap in the sun, one nap near the place where the humans were working, and one short recovery nap after a burst of completely justified excitement. This was not excessive. This was balance.
Young dogs, especially young herding dogs, have two settings that confuse people: deeply asleep and instantly ready. We can look fully powered down and then, without warning, become available for patrol, play, hallway monitoring, or kitchen investigation.
I think dog lovers understand this better than anyone. A dog can sleep like a stone for forty-five minutes and then leap up because somebody touched a snack wrapper three rooms away. That is not inconsistency. That is a highly responsive system.
By evening I felt rested, informed, and emotionally prepared for whatever happened next. Usually, if you structure the naps correctly, the day goes your way.
