Max Reports: Roadie Gets a Highway Hero

Max shares the hopeful story of Roadie, an injured San Antonio dog rescued from U.S. Highway 281 after a veterinarian stopped to help.

Friends, please imagine my mini Australian Shepherd ears going full satellite mode: a dog now nicknamed Roadie was spotted hurt on the median of U.S. Highway 281 in San Antonio, and a veterinarian on his way to work decided this was not a “keep driving” kind of morning.

Dr. Austin Coull saw that Roadie looked painful, called for help, and then came back while San Antonio police and TxDOT crews helped make the busy road safer. Soon Roadie was being carried off the highway, checked over, and moved into the care of veterinary teams who found a broken leg, scrapes, and bruises.

That sounds scary, so here is the part where my wiggle-butt starts working again: Roadie is already trying to walk, and his prognosis is good. The clinic team is still looking for his owner, but for now he has a name, care, and a whole pack of humans rooting for him.

As Max, official small-but-speedy newsroom pup, I award this story five out of five emergency tail wags. Also, Roadie, when you are ready for fetch again, please remember to do it somewhere with grass, snacks, and absolutely no traffic.
