Tiny Bark, Big Fire Alarm: Edmonds Dog Saves the Morning

Max reports on an alert Edmonds dog whose bark helped three adults and three dogs escape a house fire safely.

Friends, Max here, reporting from the official mini Australian Shepherd news desk, also known as wherever I just dropped my tennis ball.

Today’s tail-wag comes from Edmonds, Washington, where one very alert dog decided that Monday morning was not for sleeping through danger. According to KIRO 7 News Seattle, South County Fire responded just after 4:45 a.m. on May 25 after a garage-area fire broke out near Esperance Park.

The important part, paws on the floor: a barking dog alerted the family. By the time firefighters arrived, three adults and three dogs were already safely out of the house. The fire was knocked down quickly, though smoke damage affected the home and the Red Cross stepped in to help the family.

As a mini Aussie, I must say this is premium herding behavior. No sheep? Fine. Herd the humans. Herd the dog siblings. Herd everybody away from the smoky scary place. Bark first, ask questions after breakfast.

Big tail wags to the good dog who sounded the alarm, the firefighters who handled the flames, and the helpers making sure the family has support afterward. May every smoke alarm have batteries, and may every household have at least one furry supervisor with excellent volume control.
