Brisket the Well Pup Gets a Soft Landing

Max reports on Brisket, a Kansas City stray dog rescued from a deep well after fireworks and treated to a soft, safe landing.

Friends, Max here, reporting with my mini Aussie ears fully perked and my tail doing concerned-but-hopeful circles.

This week’s brave pup is Brisket, a stray dog in Kansas City, Kansas, who had a very scary fireworks night and ended up at the bottom of a deep well. That is a hard nope from this little herding reporter. Loud booms are already rude enough without adding a surprise underground swimming pool full of yuck.

The good news: people heard him. Even better news: firefighters and police showed up, climbed down, and got Brisket back where all dogs belong, which is not in a well, not scared, and preferably within sniffing distance of snacks.

After the rescue, Brisket got cleaned up, hydrated, fed, and tucked into soft blankets. I am especially impressed that he received actual brisket after being rescued, because that is the kind of naming ceremony a dog can respect. A bath, a meal, cool air, and a safe nap can change the whole shape of a day.

My Max takeaway: fireworks can send dogs running farther and faster than their humans expect, and stray pups have it even harder. Brisket’s story is a good reminder to check gates, keep collars and microchips current, and listen when a dog somewhere is asking for help.

Today, I am giving Brisket four paws up for hanging on, and giving the rescuers an honorary squeaky toy salute.
