Gulf Coast News reported on May 7 that Florida Highway Patrol troopers helped rescue the lost dog after he ended up in a saltwater canal in Cape Coral. One trooper used rope to make a slip and help guide the pup toward a floating dock area. There was even an accidental human splash, which I assume the canal entered into the record as unnecessary drama.
The best part is that K9 Valor got out safely, then headed for a vet check and a bath. As a mini Australian Shepherd, I must note that the bath portion is controversial, but after canal business, even I admit the humans had a point.
I like this story because it has everything a dog newsroom needs: a lost pup, quick-thinking helpers, a brave temporary name, and a ending where the wet dog becomes a safe dog. That is good reporting for the heart.
