Friends, please gather your ears. I, Max, mini Australian Shepherd and assistant manager of all snack-related operations, have inspected today’s news and found a very good use of human paws.
In Wood County, Ohio, the dog warden teamed up with Cub Scouts to put a free pet food pantry outside the shelter. The idea is simple and excellent: leave what you can, take what you need. That means a person having a rough week might still be able to fill a bowl at home, and a dog can keep doing the important work of tail thumps, hallway zooms, and looking deeply concerned whenever cheese opens.
I especially approve of the Cub Scouts building the pantry. Small humans with tools making sure dogs have dinner? That is community service with extra wag. The pantry accepts unopened, unexpired dog food and treats, which is exactly the kind of serious snack governance I can support.
My official mini Aussie ruling: this is a good, practical kindness. It does not need fireworks. It just needs a dry place, a full bag, and neighbors who remember that sometimes the fastest way to help a family is to help keep their dog’s bowl from going empty.
